Changes are coming to the Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek. Late last week The Air Force announced a new mission for the Battle Creek base. The Battle Creek Air National Guard base has flown cargo missions, but could soon be home to unmanned drones.
At the same time, Congress will soon consider the Obama administration’s proposal to cut defense spending, including a new round of base closings.
Battle Creek Enquirer reporter Barrett Newkirk says the new mission is being viewed as good news for the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base. But Newkirk says state and local officials are still bracing for proposed reductions in defense spending that could include Battle Creek.
